And any amateur, oh sorry, semi professional who’s coughed up and bought the latest version of Adobe Photoshop Elements, would suddenly find themselves in an elite group of braggers who can’t help asking other people “So, do you have the latest Photoshop? No! Well, modesty forbids myself but actually yes I do…”

For completeness, and in case it did ever come up and to save you the embarrassment, if someone answered you and said “Yes I use Adobe Photoshop CS” they would have just trumped you big time and you’d need to back down because that was the all bells and whistles top flight more money than sense put you into orbit version for industrial strength professionals that costs 6-10 times as much, and if you keep talking they’d probably have to start charging you just for politely nodding back at you. Bare in mind though, that other Adobe products like Elements benefit from advances in CS including a lot of the same rock solid code and functionality. Attention, VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: See below for New Monthly Digital Membership, This is Adobe’s new payment model which means less to pay up front which is good, but you never stop paying. Still that’s the new deal, and for that you get their full, forward compatible, top flight product, for as long as you keep paying the subscription.

Now, back to the super popular, easy to use and entirely adequate for ordinary mortals Photoshop Elements; I’m not joking about bragging rights for Elements because, whether it’s for business or pleasure, it’s just such a super cool piece of software to play with. Fun and exciting doesn’t cover it! And when you’re done edited your photo, or video, enhanced masterpiece to perfection…completely moving Sally so she looks as if she is actually sitting with the group and likes people, enhancing the colours, red eye and pet eye correction, compensating for the sunset, removing the mark that fly left on the lens that you didn’t clean off and tilting everything to hide the fact that someone can’t hold a camera straight…when it’s all done there’s just this irresistible compulsion to revert to a second childhood and cry out to the next unsuspecting passer by “Hey Mummy! look what I drew!”

And of course then follows the overwhelming need to own up in the name of honesty and admit that it really wasn’t as difficult as it looks because Adobe’s latest version has this absolute whiz of a new button that pretty much does the clever bit for you and it’s so friendly and intuitive. Then, as your unsuspecting audience tries to pull themselves away from the memorising beauty of your creative work, you gently grab their arm and pull them back to wonder at the cleverness of the other 50 things you could have easily done to the image but decided not to on this occasion. “Do you want me to send you the gallery link?” OOo aren’t you clever!

Warning: There now follows some links to the versions of Photoshop Elements and associated bundles that are most popular with users all coming in well under £100, along with specifications and feature lists. There are also various video demonstrations of advanced features and “ogling” user reviews. If you’re NOT intending to buy any time soon it’ s best not to look because it will just make you feel jealous and discontent: “You have been warned Captain, set your faces on stun”…

If you plan to get a “Professional” to tidy up those precious and irreplaceable photographs, or get those images for your website “just right”, remember to ask “Do you use Photoshop, and if so which version?”. If they say “Elements” followed by any number in double figures that will probably do you fine. If they say “Adobe Photoshop CS”, then you probably cant afford them 🙂
